Stair Nose FAQ
What is a stair nose?
A stair nose is a custom-fabricated piece that hangs over the edge of each step on your staircase. It provides extra space for you to step on, protects your stair treads, and adds style and safety to your staircase. At Voda Stairs, we create modern square style stair nosings from any material homeowners provide to us, ensuring that they perfectly match your existing flooring.
What difference between Flush Stair Nose and Overlap Stair Nose
What is the difference between our flush-style stair nose and an overlap-style stair nose? And how do you know which is better for your Seattle home? The most significant difference between a flush and an overlap stair nose is how they are attached to the edge of the steps of your stairs.Typically an overlap stair nose includes a small protruding piece that will overlap with the flooring of each step on your staircase. It creates a transition on the edge of your step, overlapping on the back edge of your stairs, creating a lip. Overlap stair noses can be great for safety purposes, but they create a noticeable and unattractive gap on each step.
A flush stair nose is a better option for homeowners desiring a sleek, modern design aesthetic because there is a smooth transition between the flooring and your staircase. Our style of flush stair nose connects on the same level as your step’s surface. This creates a seamless effect because the stair nose ends at the edge of your step, where it meets the flooring. If you want a stair nose that perfectly blends in with your stairs and boasts a clean, modern appearance, a flush stair nose is the best choice.
What are the standard dimensions of a stair nose?
The standard dimensions of a nosing face are 1 1/4″ to 1 1\2″ and about 5″ of plank width. All of our stair nose fabrication sizings may vary to fit your flooring’s exact look and feel and your individual needs.
What style of stair nose do you offer?
At Voda Stairs, we offer modern square style nosings instead of commonly seen bullnose or rounded-style nosings. Our customers love this more modern look in their homes, as opposed to rounded edges with an old-fashioned appearance.
What is the difference between a return tread and a return nosing?
A return tread is a full step with return wrapping around the full side of the tread. A return nosing is only wrapped around the stair nose, meaning if your staircase has a partially open ended side, we recommend you order a return tread for the open side of the staircase.
Can you make a nosing that's longer than the original plank length?
At Voda Stairs we fabricate stair nosings that are up to 12 feet long, excluding vinyl materials.
How much is stair nose fabrication?
Our residential stair nose fabrication starts at $12 per linear foot. That includes engineered wood, laminate, and vinyl. If you are a flooring contractor or flooring store, please contact us for a wholesale price.
Do you offer warranties?
Yes, at Voda Stairs we offer 1 year warranty on all our products and services when you choose us as the installer, in the case that they delaminate or if they come apart at the seams. In the case you don’t choose us to install them, it is the installer’s responsibility to ensure that the nosing, stair tread, or riser complements the flooring boards.
Wood is a natural material of shades that vary according to cut, grain and mineral streaks.
Be sure color matches before installation. An installed nosing, stair tread or riser that is not installed by Voda is considered as accepted and no claims will be considered for any of the reasons mentioned above.
