How the stair nosing material estimate is calculated, and when to send photos instead.

It depends on your board width, material thickness and how many nosings you need. Most standard square nosings use roughly one to two boards each, because every nosing needs enough width for the finished top, the face, the overhang and saw waste. Enter your numbers above and the calculator gives you a minimum plus a recommended range.

The calculated minimum assumes every board is clean, full length and defect free. Real flooring arrives with damaged edges, short usable sections, color variation and locking-profile damage, so we add a buffer of two boards. Ordering near the top of the range keeps your job from stalling on one bad board.

A half board is a usable board section at least half the original board width and at least as long as the required nosing. Vinyl and LVP are always counted as whole planks, so half planks never appear for those materials.

Vinyl and LVP nosings are heat bent from a single plank rather than cut and assembled from strips, so each nosing uses exactly one plank. The plank width has to be wide enough after the bend deduction, otherwise Voda needs to review the material first.

Yes. The estimate assumes every board or plank is at least as long as the requested nosing. Short pieces cannot be joined lengthwise to make one nosing, so if your flooring is mostly short lengths, plan on additional material.

Actual requirements may vary depending on damaged boards, defects, locking profiles, tongues and grooves, pattern alignment, unusable sections, board condition, milling tolerances, and other material-specific factors. Additional boards may be required after Voda inspects the flooring. This calculator assumes every board or plank is at least as long as the requested stair nosing — shorter boards cannot be combined lengthwise to create one nosing.
